Sonic quilt :full view: by marquise-crafts Sonic quilt :full view: by marquise-crafts
Sonic the Hedgehog quilt, ftw!

The black outline of Sonic himself is made of crushed velvet. I thought I'd try it since I found this old crushed velvet cape from my "Goth days" and figured it'd make good scrap fabric. It turned out to look surprisingly good, but it was a total nightmare to sew. I was covered in little velvet fuzzies for days and the fabric stretched a lot so it was hard to keep it straight.

The remainder of the quilt is symphony broadcloth while the back is anti-pill fleece. Rather than batting, I used a velveteen blanket for the middle part. Needless to say this quilt is VERY thick and VERY warm. Amazing for the coziness.

I made it for myself, to be honest. I'm a big Sonic fan from childhood. I can seriously play Sonic 2 for Sega Genesis with my eyes closed (No joke, I did it once for a friend to prove it). I made it without the intention of selling it, but if I get the right offer, I'd be willing to let it go. Maybe.

Close up view of this quilt can be found here: [link]

It also depends on the pattern. If it's a smaller, simpler pattern, I recommend 3" squares. :)

Hey, I love this. I quilt and I love Sonic. Could you tell me the dimensions of this quilt? I'm thinking of making one of either Shadow or Amy, and I'd like a base size to work with. Or the size of the squares you used. Thanks :)

Each square was roughly 2" around, but maybe a tad smaller. I don't actually measure anything... it's more guess work. It's kind of like photographic memory, but with scissors. But yeah, my guess would be between 1.5" to 2" squares, which would put the quilt at a very large throw size, possibly enough to cover a twin bed but I have never tried it out on one.

Good luck! Sorry I can't be more specific, I just sew at random.

Me too! Thanks though. A rough guesstimate works great. I'm gonna make one for my brother when he gets his first apartment this summer.

Awesome! I'm sure it will turn out great. Even if it feels like it's not going to turn out as well as you hoped, don't despair. It will look divine in the end. Good luck!

Patience! And don't get too disappointed if it doesn't line up right at first. You can always fix any mistakes. :)

That is seriously impressive, I think more people should make stuff like this. Did you make the whole quilt by yourself, or did you just sew Sonic on it? Because if it is the latter then it is rather luckly that the squares on it fits so nicely with the pixel art.

Actually, I worked pretty diligently for about 4 days. lol That's all it took, but considering I didn't really eat or sleep in that period, I'd say it would probably be more like a week or two for a normal person. I'm sort of a machine when I get started on a project... I hate to stop. ^^;

Quite understandably, how would you be able to sleep anyway without your Sonic quilt? I have a tendency of starting long term projects, but I do need to stop as otherwise I wouldn't still be alive hehe :)
